Phenom Operators
« on: September 09, 2010, 11:41:12 AM »
As a former Alpha Black (Tactical - E trigger) and A-5 (HE trigger) operator I would like to throw my two cents in on operating a Phenom and see what other Phenom operators think too.

As my only comparison is to the previous markers mentioned above, the Phenom sure is sweet. There is less kick and the chrono spread is much less than with blowback systems. The ease of maintenance is a strong point in my book. I clean my markers after every day I play. I know some may say that is overkill but when I step on to the field I know my equipment should be right. Boy the Phenom is a joy to clean!

The only mod I have done at this point is sanding/smoothing the front bolt face where it was a little rough. But that is it. I run a 14 inch J & J which makes for a fairly quiet shot and have yet to have had a ball break even even with using higher grade paint. On my A-5 I did the full cyclone upgrade with Lapco parts but this time I am taking a wait and see attitude. I did find the stock paddle design to be better than anything Lapco or TechT makes.

Air usage is better but I don't think it is what Tippmann claims.

If you run a Phenom let me know what you think...
I stand on the shoulders of those that came before me that answered the call to defend freedom. Their warrior spirit flows through my veins. I am nothing without the honor, valor, duty, and sacrifice they made on behalf of their country. When I step on the field I fight to honor them....

Haven't done any mods to mine yet, so I'm still running stock with a J&J barrel kit.

My air usage seems to be roughly half what it was with the A5. The gun is definitely quieter and the lack of any serious vibration also increases the shot accuracy, which is a good thing.

The reduction of internal parts also increases the lifespan of the gun without maintenance, ie no tombstone, no visible o-rings, back bolts, springs etc. Love the sealed unit. When you remove the stock from the end of the gun nothing falls out, imagine that?

The only serious cleaning I've done to date if after being on the receiving end of Matt and his Ego, where he's trying to change the color of my gun ;)

To date my only issues are the safe / 3 shot pulls on the full-auto and response modes and the not so robust battery cover on the grip. I'm waiting for APE to release the Phenom Rampage board. They are supposed to be releasing it, but it seems to be taking forever.

Well, I have done the Clickypen mod, which even though it isnt complex, It works wonders with my double trigger.
Just ordered a Deadlywinds Fibur with full freak insert kit, and thinking of getting an M16 kit as well as new bolt. The trigger is really nice though.
